time slipping by

Christmas seems like such a long time ago. I guess it's really only been two months. We took the train up to Seattle to spend the holiday with Jonathan's family. Has anyone out there taken the train?

Bella's first (and only) Christmas tree ....EVER.

We got our Christmas tree today. Bella helped us pick it out. We now have a potted tree that we are hoping to keep around for Christmases to come.

An evening with Brian Eno

How my little girl is growing up. Already going to talks about progressive thinking.
Brian Eno's talk was very enjoyable and I feel we got a lot out of it. There are many points to think about and theories to conceder.
I think basically what the talk was about was not just living or thinking rather in the "here and now". But realizing that our actions will have ramifications (good or bad) in the future. Time will still go on after we're gone... how profound. So to manifest this idea of learning not to shorten our perception to "here and now"; but to broaden our minds to the "long now" they (Brian & Co) have come up with a 10,000 year clock.
I could go into a very long explanation. But being that I AM a new parent and I do NEED sleep... I'll give you my short spin on the talk. Um, Don't be a bastard. Don't liter. Only you can prevent forest fires. Be a Hippy. Breast feed your children for so long that they can ask for it properly,"Mother, I would like to nurse on your breasts now." Protest... (you gotta fight for your right to paaarrrr-ta) Use hemp. Conserve water, don't bath or brush your teeth. Volunteer. NO, the Big Brother Big Sister programs are not dating services. yada yada yada we've all heard it before. This is just a more gentle way of making you feel guilty for eating McDonald's.

An evening with Dad

My laughin' little girl. She cracks me up. She giggles and coos. It's wonderful to have laughter in the house. We makes silly faces and listen to music. Bella can make her own music. She's my little buddy.
Monday we went to 24th street and stayed out super late. We had dinner and walked around. Then we went to one of those "paint something on ceramic" places and made a Christmas gift for Grandma England.
Tuesday we went to see "ELF" at the metreon. Um..... my company was great. The movie...well...
Wednesday we went to the mall. YAWN. There were a lot of school kids there. A popular look with catholic girls is to wear thigh high stockings with their cute shirts. That was really the only interesting thing going on at the mall.

Tonight Bella had time with Dad while I went to a Ballet class. I really need to work out. Right now I would describe my hind quarters as, "booty", or "getto". Bella spent the evening in deep conversations contemplating file system replication for hot fail over in high availability systems. (I'm sure she already can out geek me )

a visit with Grandpa

Grandpa Moore came to visit today. Bella learned all about Microsoft and how Dad has opinion on everything! Bella liked going to dim sum and hearing embarrassing stories about her Dad the best. We talked about going to Seattle for Christmas. I think we might take the train. We've never done it before and it sounds like a lot of fun. Maybe this year she will get to hear her Grandpa play banjo or guitar or her Uncle play cello. Bella can make her own special sounds too! It really was a beautiful day in the city. Good company as well.

Catching up with Bella

Bella's first Halloween was a very mellow event. Jonathan forced me to go down to 24th ave. to get out of the house. "Even if you're sick", he said, "you'll regret it if you don't take her out."
So we put her in a leopard costume and went for a walk. WOW!! Noe Valley is THE place to live if you have a child and live in S.F. So many kids! We saw a lot of super cute costumes and some silly ones too. One little girl was the grim reaper. Mostly we saw kittens, 101 Dalmatians, vampires, scary movie. A group of boys were in Clockwork Orange attire. I was a good night for a family outing. Everyone thought Bella was very cute. I think she was the youngest out. But we did see a lot of babies.
The next day we were all sick and feeling very under the weather. So we didn't go out at all.
Monday Bella and I went to a stroller group at Stonestown Mall. I thought it was a little walking group that met and went around the mall to shop. We did not dress for REAL exercise. But we had fun running back a forth around the mall, stopping here and there to do squats while singing Humpty Dumpty or Itsy Bitsy Spider. We went again on Wednesday.
Today Bella laughed for the first time. It was very cute. She loves to smile. She's becoming quite the flirt too. I should have photos up soon!

My little angel is sick. MY guess is that she got from her DAD. Last night she started sneezing and coughing. Then the crying and wailing. Not much sleeping went on last night. But I did get to see the sun rise!
So much for our Happy Halloween. Unless we go as the diseased Black Death Family.
OH...She's crying again......

Bella's day at the MD

We went to see Doctor Robert Langston today. Bella had 4 shots. Jonathan's job was to hold her little arms down while the doctor poked needles into her tiny legs. I sat and held my breath while Bella screamed. After they were done, I nursed her and she was happy again.
Bella's height and weight at 2 months is 23 1/2 in. 11.6 lbs. Doctor Langston says she is in the 75th percentile. Big Girl!
Later that day Bella was smiling and talking. She says she is very disappointed in the results of the recall. Shortly after expressing her opinion I changed her diaper. Then she napped.
